The Punjab Education Department has officially issued a circular outlining a strict dress code for all male and female teachers working in government schools. The directive aims to maintain professionalism and discipline among educators while ensuring a focus on academics and student character-building during the ongoing school session.

Dress Code Guidelines

For Male Teachers

  • Attire:
    • Shalwar kameez with a waistcoat.
    • Pants and shirt with a tie and coat.
  • Personal Grooming:
    • Regular shaving is mandatory.

For Female Teachers

  • Attire:
    • Shalwar kameez paired with a scarf.
  • Footwear:
    • Closed shoes are compulsory.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Dresses and shoes must not be transparent.

The circular mandates that all educators adhere strictly to these guidelines while attending school.

Responsibilities for School Heads and Teachers

The heads of government schools have been instructed to ensure the following:

  1. Dress Code Compliance
    • All educators must follow the prescribed dress code to uphold discipline and professional standards.
  2. Academic Focus
    • Teachers should prioritize completing the syllabus during the current academic session.
    • Lectures must be delivered daily, with special emphasis on engaging and educating students effectively.
  3. Character-Building
    • Teachers should focus on nurturing students’ character in addition to academic development.
  4. Supervision and Safety
    • Ensure strict supervision during breaks and recess to prevent students from leaving school premises.
  5. Hygiene Practices
    • Students should be encouraged to wash their hands after using toilets and washrooms.
    • Washrooms must be equipped with essential supplies, including water, towels, and soap.
  6. Facility Management
    • Before closing schools for the day, ensure that all:
      • Doors and windows are secured.
      • Electrical appliances like bulbs, fans, heaters, and water pumps are turned off.

Purpose of the Circular

The department emphasized that these measures are not just for maintaining discipline and professionalism but also for ensuring a safe, hygienic, and conducive learning environment for students. Teachers are expected to lead by example in both their attire and conduct.

This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing educational standards, fostering student well-being, and reinforcing the role of teachers in shaping future generations.
