The 20th meeting of the Punjab Provincial Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, brought forth several significant decisions aimed at improving the province’s development and the welfare of its citizens. Among the key measures approved was the construction of three multi-story towers in Chauburji Gardens to provide housing for government employees. A comprehensive plan for allocating plots and offering housing loans to employees was also requested by the Chief Minister to address their residential needs effectively.
In education, the cabinet introduced the Foundational Learning Policy Punjab 2024, which focuses on enhancing students’ language and reading skills through Spoken English and Reading Hours in government schools. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to educational reforms and improving student learning outcomes.
The cabinet also approved the establishment of Model Bazaars in every district with an initial budget of PKR 2.58 billion. This project aims to provide affordable and accessible marketplaces for the public, enhancing local economies. In the healthcare sector, the Punjab Transplant Program received a budget allocation of PKR 2.5 billion to support essential transplants such as liver, kidney, and bone marrow. Additionally, advanced MRI and CATH lab equipment will be provided to Gilgit-Baltistan to improve medical services in the region.

To promote tourism, a Tourism Internship Program was launched to engage youth and foster interest in the sector. Meanwhile, the introduction of evening classes in Punjab’s nursing colleges seeks to increase opportunities for healthcare education. Employment initiatives included the hiring of 276 technical staff for the Punjab Agriculture, Food, and Drug Authority, as well as long-awaited recruitment for 464 vacant positions in the Border Military Police and Baloch Levy after 42 years.
The cabinet also addressed the need for modernizing forensic facilities by approving the replacement of outdated equipment at the Punjab Forensic Science Authority. These decisions highlight the government’s commitment to improving education, healthcare, employment, and infrastructure while ensuring a higher standard of living for the people of Punjab.
