PIA Offers Major Discounts on International Airfares After FED WaiverPIA Offers Major Discounts on International Airfares After FED Waiver

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced significant reductions in international flight fares following the recent approval of a Federal Excise Duty (FED) waiver. This move comes after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreed to the Pakistani government’s request for the waiver, providing relief for international travelers.

Huge Savings for International Travelers

The FED waiver applies exclusively to international flights, allowing passengers to enjoy substantial savings. According to PIA sources, travelers heading to destinations like the United States can save up to Rs350,000 on ticket prices. Similarly, those traveling to Africa or the Middle East may see reductions of as much as Rs105,000.

For passengers flying to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East, ticket prices are expected to decrease by up to Rs210,000. This move aims to make international travel more affordable while promoting tourism and ease of access for Pakistanis living abroad.

However, it’s important to note that the waiver is not applicable to domestic flights, which will remain subject to the existing FED charges.

Easing the Burden of Increased FED

The reduction in international airfares partially offsets the heavy burden imposed earlier this year when the 2024 federal budget introduced an additional Rs56 billion in FED on air travel. By waiving the duty for international routes, the government and PIA have provided much-needed relief to travelers who have been grappling with rising ticket costs.

Resumption of Paris Flights in 2025

In addition to the fare reductions, PIA has announced the resumption of its flight operations to Paris. Starting January 10, 2025, the national carrier will operate flights between Islamabad and Paris twice a week.

The flights will depart from Islamabad every Friday and Sunday at 11:30 AM, landing in Paris at 4:00 PM local time. The return flights will leave Paris at 6:00 PM and arrive back in Islamabad by 5:00 AM the next morning.

This decision comes after careful planning and is aimed at providing passengers with convenient travel options. The resumption of flights to Paris is seen as part of PIA’s broader strategy to expand its international network and cater to the growing demand for European routes.

A Boost for Travelers and the Economy

PIA’s fare cuts and the reinstatement of flights to Paris mark a positive step for both international travelers and the national airline. The reductions will not only ease the financial burden on passengers but also enhance PIA’s competitiveness in the global aviation market.

With the FED waiver in place, the airline hopes to attract more passengers, bolster revenues, and strengthen its financial position in the long run.

Conclusion

The announcement of discounted fares and the return of Paris flights signals a new chapter for Pakistan’s aviation sector. As PIA works to rebuild its reputation and expand its operations, travelers can look forward to more accessible and affordable international travel options in the near future.
